Ways of mining mica deposit are opencast working and undergrounding mining. The mica deposit, which contains less than 200t of the mica that is used as industry raw material, mostly adopts opencast working.
Dressing process of mica ores is enrichment of raw mica. Raw mica is any mica crystal whose area is on less than 4 cm2 in raw ores.
In industry, natural crystal of mica is directly used to be treated into needed products. The bigger the impeccable mica crystal is, the high the economic value is. As a result, we should protect mica crystal from damage as much as possible during the dressing process of mica ores.
On mining working face or ore storage around pithead, workers select mica which has individual dissociated; use hammer to scrap the intergrowth of mica and gangue, then select mica out from them.
According to the distinction of coefficient of sliding friction between mica crystal and gangue, sheet mica crystal is separated from round gangue. Tilt table separator is one of the machines that used. Ore dressing process is: lumpy gangues roll down to muck pile; mica and smaller gangue are stopped by plate and fall down to the nest tilt plate. Repeat this procedure on tilt plate in proper sequence, which can generally separate mica and gangue. So far, frictional separation draft and used plants are still incomplete, so this draft hasn��t been widely applied to mica ore dressing process.
According to different shapes of mica crystal and gangue which endow them different abilities to permeate screen crevice and screen pore, mica and gangue are separated from each other. In dressing process, a kind of screen with more than two layers of different sieve structures is adopted. Normally, the first layer of screen stencil is bar, the second, square. When raw ores are sent to screen, sheet mica and small gangue permeate bar screen crevice to the second sieve; sheet mica can be left with gangue removed for square sieve of the second screen.
Shape separation, featuring simple process, few equipments, high production efficiency, good separating result etc. and is widely used in mica mine. Its commonly used plants are vibrating screen, vibrating feeder, etc.
Flotation separation works according the diverse physical-chemical property of mica and gangue. Firstly, crush the mica ores; secondly, individual dissociate mica through grinding process; thirdly, by the action of agent, mica becomes product and separate from gangue. The technological process of mica includes three-section roughing and three-section concentration. Therefore mica concentration can be selected out.
Special equipments are normally adopted to realize the air separation of mica. Its process is: crushing to individual dissociation �� screening and classification �� air separation. In areas with water shortage, air separation is suitable and has been applied to practical production.
