Coal mining is usually divided into open mining and underground mining. When the ore bed is close to the surface, the open mining is more economical. In the world, there are about 40% of the coal mine using open mining. But most of the coal ore bed are away from the surface, we need to utilize the underground mining.

Open coal mine is formed by top-down rocks and consists of cementation gravel layer, Jurassic stratum, medium-grained sandstone and packsand. The rock mass also features with fine texture, solidness and uniform structure. The open coal mine mining mainly consists of perforation blasting, excavation, transportation and soil treatment. Sometimes unwatering and dewatering are needed. After mining, environmental governance should also be taken into account.
On the coal layer, put the dynamite into the undeveloped surface soil and then use the dredging machines, excavators and trucks to remove the surface soil. These surface soil is filled into the mined pit. After removing the surface soil, the coal ore bed will be exposed. At this moment, through drilling up or shattering, the ore block will be divided into pieces that we called ore sand and then transported to coal preparation plant for next processing.
